Charges in Elizabeth New Jersey

More criminal and traffic charges are issued in Elizabeth than any other municipality in Union County. Those that land in the Elizabeth Municipal Court are those falling within the grade of a disorderly persons offense. If you were arrested for this category of criminal offense, you generally face up to six (6) months in the county jail, a $1,000 fine, hundreds of dollars in mandatory court assessments, community service, and/or probation. The municipal court also has authority to decide motor vehicle violations written within the 13.46 square miles of the city.
